Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Accelerated Resolution Therapy is a relatively new type of therapy that produces very effective results quickly, in as few as 1 - 5 sessions. ART is a nationally recognized evidence-based practice that combines and expands on elements of previously existing therapies including cognitive behavioral, Gestalt, EMDR, brief psychodynamic, and guided imagery. It is remarkably helpful for many issues including trauma, depression, anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, grief, addictions, and many other issues. ART is process-oriented, not content-oriented, which means it requires much less talking about the problem than other therapies.

If you have ever awoken from a dream and wondered if it was real or not, you understand that your brain can create an experience for you that feels very real. There are similarities in brain activities during waking sensory experiences - seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and feeling, and during our active dream state when these sensory perceptions feel real but are occurring only in our minds. The eye-movements (EMs) in ART, replicate the eye-movements that occur naturally in our REM (Rapid Eye Movement) state of sleep. These EMs are naturally and powerfully calming, and are associated with the brain's natural problem-solving processes. We often awaken after a deep sleep feeling relaxed, with new perspectives. There is science behind the saying, "just sleep on it."

The EMs used in ART provide access to this natural problem-solving ability, which is typically only available when we are asleep. With a trained ART clinician guiding the process, your problems and accompanying emotions, images, and body sensations can be safely and quickly processed, separated from the facts. ART founder Laney Rosenzweig says, "keep the facts, lose the pain," and this is what ART does. You are always in control of your ART session and know exactly what you are doing to the memory and your perspective during a process called Voluntary Memory/Image Replacement.
